Overview

Though climate change is perceived as a consistent, global threat, socio-environmental inequality is still a topic that has received little engagement in France. Yet, vulnerability to the risks of climate change varies greatly among individuals depending on age, sex, and social status (including economic, cultural, and social resources). We believe that environmental and climate inequality is at the heart of the fight against climate change.

Since its creation in 2015, Notre Affaire à Toushas taken an interest in the numerous French victims of the climate emergency, such as farmers, beekeepers, fishers, aquaculturists, and winemakers. We are taking action to highlight these diverse situations and develop suitable support and protection for individuals facing the consequences of climate change.

We are determined to support and protect individuals against the consequences of climate change, which will cause us all to suffer ecological, moral, physical, or even economic harm. Disparities are already being felt among individuals and territories, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities. To better advocate for our cause, we are bringing together the power of the research and academic sphere with organizations and social movements.

Our objectives

  • To promote access to and raise awareness of climate justice for local communities
  • To document and raise awareness of the impacts of climate change and its related inequalities to allow for a real consideration of climate risks for the population
  • To use journalistic and/or academic means to highlight witness’s stories in order to present portraits of the French people affected by climate change
  • To researchand make known the various harms populations suffer concerning climate change and to support citizens in environmental legal recourse
  • To foster a European movement around the impacts of climate change and eventually gain a real and adequate awareness of the risks of climate change for the population

How ?

We have established relationships with students, researchers, and specialists to develop informative content on climate inequalities. We are conducting studies, going out into the field, and collecting and analyzing data.

In order to foster dialogue and disseminate information, the group also works with journalists and has its own monthlypress review, #IMPACTS. To help our demands come to fruition, we are using legal recourse and analyzing the feasibility of and interest in a class action lawsuit for the environment.

We are confident that the reality of socio-environmental inequality has a strong potential for mobilization and can increase awareness of the climate emergency, which is already affecting quality of life.
