Overview

Notre Affaire à Tous is part of a worldwide movement: that of legal actions for the climate, of the mobilization to penalize environmental crimes, but also for the recognition of the rights to nature.

Throughout the world, climate litigation is on the rise: citizens and associations are turning to the courts to ensure that their rights and those of nature are respected. They are challenging the lack of ambition of government policies and holding the most polluting companies responsible. Our action focuses on legal monitoring in order to establish a database of global climate litigation. The problem of climate change is a global problem, which implies a global approach: we therefore rely heavily on environmental initiatives that are developing around the world.

We participate to this global network of legal actions and citizen mobilizations, with numerous organizations including Urgenda (Netherlands), ClientEarth (European Union), Our Children’s Trust (United-States), le Wildlife Trust of India, Klimaatzaak (Belgium),CIEL (international), the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN)…

Our objectives

  • Insert our actions and activities into a transnational global dynamic
  • Contribute to jurisprudence development and the knowledge of legal actions for climate, in France and abroad
  • Form partnerships and collaborations with experts, law firms, and foreign lawyers
  • Discovernew ways tactics in order to defend climate and social justice
  • Contribute to the promotion, in France and worldwide, of an effective international regulation for climate and the environment

How ?

We act on different levels to reach our objectives: Some of our lawyers and volunteers read, translate and analyze court decisions in foreign languages to contribute to the understanding of the different legal systems and rights that are granted to the living. A legal watch is also carried out by our members: they analyze the news coming from specialists and the media and keep abreast of the latest news on climate litigation. This work is then highlighted in the bimonthly newsletter « Climate Affairs ».

We alsoget in touch with collectives and lawyers involved in legal actions around the world.
